Protection Overview

WEFOD mainstreams cross-cutting activities such as Gender Based Violence (GBV), mental health and general protection across all our thematic programmes. We are committed to protecting the rights and dignity of all vulnerable populations, especially women, children, persons with disabilities, and those affected by conflict and displacement.

Cross-cutting Activities

• Gender Based Violence (GBV): Prevention, risk mitigation, and response services including psychosocial support, case management, and referrals for survivors.
• Mental Health: Psychological first aid, counselling services, and referral pathways for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
• Disability Inclusion: Ensuring programmes are accessible to persons with disabilities through reasonable accommodation and inclusive programming.
• Child Protection: Preventing and responding to abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence against children, including family tracing and reunification.
• Gender Equality: Mainstreaming gender perspectives across all programmes and ensuring equal participation of women and girls.
• Advocacy: Promoting the rights of vulnerable populations through community engagement, social mobilization, and policy advocacy.
• Capacity Building: Training community members, local authorities, and partners on protection principles, GBV prevention, and human rights.

Our 2030 Protection Targets (SDG 5)

• 5.1 — End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere
• 5.2 — Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual exploitation
• 5.3 — Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation
• 5.4 — Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work through public services, infrastructure and social protection policies
• 5.5 — Ensure women's full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making
• 5.6 — Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights
• 5.A — Undertake reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources, access to ownership and control over land and other property
• 5.B — Enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular ICT, to promote the empowerment of women
• 5.C — Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls
